  • I won this book from First Reads. When I finished, my daughter asked me how I liked it:"I feel like I've been kicked in the face" I replied. This book is not long, but it really packs a wallop! The story is deceptively simple, but the interplay of the characters' needs & personal failings makes for a truly riveting tale of redemption amid bad choices. The author's imagery of light/dark is starkly beautiful & moving.

  • I don't think there are words in the English Dictionary to describe what I felt as I read this book. I can say it was very riveting

  • A few of my favorite lines from this story:“I’m feeling agitated with the sensation of fermenting energy.”“If it didn’t kill you it made you feel perfect.”“It was the worst way to say “good night, a surreptitious serpent hissing a confession of sin into my ear.”The writing of this story was beautiful. • I quite enjoyed this book but it was a little disjointed. The plot is that Tess contacts her old boyfriend Kevin and asks him to help her out of a difficult situation as he had promised he would do.He isn't aware that she has stolen money and heroin until after he gets involved. The rest of the book is the way they keep one step ahead, or do they ?

  • Loved it. Dark and gritty. Could be a killer movie. The author really digs deep, i dont like drugs, but i love this book.

  • I received a copy of this book from the : First Reads giveaway.I have no problem with my narrator/main characters not being squeaky-clean, upstanding citizens so the fact that the book centers around two junkies isn't a problem with me nor does it bother me that one of them is a thieving dancer but what does get me is the fact that neither characters has one redeemable, likable thing about them between the two of them. Kevin is a weak spineless pushover whereas Tess is manipulative vague user (a [...]

  • The Go-Go Girl is the book I always wanted to read. It's a mix of every great form of literature. At its core The Go-Go Girl is a noir adventure novel that follows, Tess, as she tries to get away after stealing money and drugs. There is an influence of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. The structure of the story follows The Great Gatsby and The Old Man and The Sea. It is a fast-paced and exciting read that carries its momentum throughout the book.It could've been a plain cut and dry adventu [...]
