To America With Profound Gratitude

Full disclosure hereI am married to the author. Having said that, and given that I was there for much of what Reiko has written, I still learned a few new things such as the gratitude that many of the Japanese people felt towards the United States for the way they were treated after the war ended. Since publishing the book, she realized that the gratitude was, in large part, to American WWII veterans for ending the war and bringing peace, food, and democracy to Japan. This was a great look at an immigrant's path to America! It was a wonderful reminder how blessed we are to live in this great country! I found her determination and independence inspirational and sightly embarassing that I haven't achieved even a 1/4 of what she has done in her life and I've had every opportunity at my finger tips. Something to strive for :)

This is the story of a woman's journey through life from her childhood in Japan to her love of her adopted country, the United States. In the book she is grateful to the US for defeating Japan in WW II. McKendry states that it changed the culture in Japan for the better and states why. It is a very interesting read.
